Why It’s Vital to Keep an Area Litter-Free
Stroll through your local town or city very early in the daybreak and you will discover a number of applied sweepers on the roads cleaning up the mess strewn around by all the drunken activities of the previous night. It’s a regular early morning scene, particularly the beeping noise! We don’t often give litter a consideration as we take for granted it will all be cleaned up for us.
Yet, there is a subtle yet significant impact litter has in terms of determining the mood of individuals. People are more liable to think an area is less well policed if rubbish is strewn around, and so criminals see rubbish as a potential signal for a chance of a mugging or robbery. The same signal creates some fearfulness in other individuals who worry they might be passing into a more dodgy neighbourhood and are concerned about possibly being attacked.
There’s also the influence on the visual appeal of a neighbourhood. Litter scattered about can give the appearance of a location looking run down even if it’s just been trashed by people from the night before. This can harm the reputation of a neighbourhood if people are only within the area for this specific short period of time and only discover it in its unkempt state.
There’s no need to drop litter if there are empty rubbish bins around the neighbourhood. If there are no litter bins, or the rubbish bins that are there are overloaded, this is a problem to address the local council with. Throwing rubbish has a negative impact on everybody.
