Where the Best Place to Have a Poker Tournament?
A brief for a posh poker tournament in Switzerland flew across my desk today, and it looked pretty cool. Free food, incredible location, and great fun all around (mountains? Poker? Money? Yes please!).
It got me to thinking… where’s the best place on earth to have a poker tournament? I immediately ruled out Las Vegas. It’s great, it’s amazing, it’s one-of-a-kind, but it’s the boring, obvious answer everyone and their poodle is going to pick. Best to just eliminate it now by default than worry about it too much.
Next I thought of Casino Royale, as depicted in the recent James Bond flick. It was old world luxury with its huge castle like buildings and European countryside, and I like that. Plus, it had a pretty intense poker tournament where people died during the breaks!
After that, I considered the entire island of Japan. I could play anywhere there and be pretty much pleased as punch. It’s the culture, the language, the love of the poker cards that exists there and in other Asian countries thanks to poker greats like Johnny Chan.
But beyond that I started to falter. There are PLENTY of places to hit the tables in Europe and the US and even South America! What’s a guy to do?
